From small seeds big things grow.

What is Seeds?

Seeds is our program to invest in great Celtx storytellers. If we can have something to do with supporting your career of making quality entertainment for a living, then we are going to put our money where our mouth is. So far, we have invested $45,000 in upcoming filmmakers and video creators through the Seeds program.

The recipient of the Seeds grant can use the amount toward the specific submitted project or any other video endeavours. As the creator, you decide how to spend it.

What is a "teaser"?

A strong teaser or pilot builds a heightened interest in the full-length version of the project. We're accepting all various formats; web series, TV pilots, film teasers. It is crucial that teasers/pilots establish the tone of project while revealing limited but curious details on characters and plot. Simply put, the goal is make us want more in 10 minutes or less.

How do I apply for a Seeds grant?

Every month, or so, we’ll post a new Seeds challenge. On or before the challenge deadline, you need to create and submit a video to meet the challenge requirements, or select one from your catalog. If you are uploading via Youtube, please ensure the video is marked as public. To submit, you must be signed in to your Celtx account. Once you are signed in to your account, select the ‘Submit my Video’ button and follow the instructions to post your video for consideration. If you do not have a Celtx account, you will first need to create a new one, for free, at www.celtx.com

Is there an age restriction?

Yes, as each grant winner will be required to complete a signed license, you must represent and warrant that you are at least 13 years old and can form a legally binding contract under applicable law.

How will Seeds grants be awarded?

Throughout the challenge period, the Celtx community of video creators will be able to view and vote for their choice of best storytelling videos. At the conclusion of each challenge period we’ll review a selection of the top voted videos and from that group, select a submitter to receive the grant for that challenge.

How do I vote for a video?

To vote, you must be signed in to your Celtx account. Once you are signed in to your account, select the ‘Vote’ button for the video(s) you think tells the best story. You will be able to cast one vote for any video submitted each challenge. If you do not have a Celtx account, you will first need to create a new one, for free, at www.celtx.com.

Can I submit more than one video per challenge?

Sorry, no. We're investing in the storyteller, not the project. So the onus is on you to pick the one video you think will rock the Celtx community.

I submitted to a previous Seeds challenge. Can I submit to a new challenge?

Absolutely.

Is there an entry fee?

There's no entry fee and anyone with a Celtx account can submit or vote.

Do I need to own the copyright?

Yes. You are required to get all necessary clearances so that the video can be posted online without infringing other's copyright. This means background and incidental music too. You must have all clearances in place before you can be awarded a Seeds grant.

Any restrictions on what I can enter?

Art is all about free expression, and the Seeds program is no exception. However, be aware of the fine line between being provocative and being offensive. Context is key! Any videos posted with the intention of causing harm or discomfort, or inciting hate or intolerance towards another individual, group, race, religion, or culture will be deleted. Likewise, pornography is strictly prohibited.

What if the project was created by two or more creators?

We will be pleased to recognize the team behind the project in our promotion, but we must receive the submission from the person able to license the work.

When will I receive my grant?

If your video is selected for a Seeds grant, we'll require a logline and synopsis for promotional use. As well, we'll require a signed license allowing us non-exclusive right to promote/show your work. Once this is in place you will receive your grant (usually the same day).

What is a 'non-exclusive license'?

You allow us to promote your work, but we do not have the exclusive right to do so (i.e. you are free to distribute your work with/through other promoters and producers).

Which languages are acceptable?

We welcome submissions in any language. We ask that any non-english projects contain english subtitles.
